It would not be possible to exorcise the irrationality that men think they feel that in the unconscious and would sometimes attempt to madness: the illusion of dominating the unconscious recourse to philosophical rationalism. Nietzsche was received in Jung's Psychological Types in 1921 as the living emblem of an irreconcilable conflict between unconscious and consciousness.
