O regina del cielo,

o sia pure tu l'alma Cerere,

antichissima madre delle messi,

che per la gioia della figlia ritrovata

all'uomo offristi un cibo più dolce 

che non quello ferino delle ghiande,

e fai più bella con la tua promessa  la terra di Eleusi; 
o anche la celeste Venere

spreading the human species with a descent unbroken

honored now in Paphos, surrounded by the sea;

or sister of Phoebus,
that alleviating with sweet remedy the pains of childbirth

have given life to many generations and now

six revered shrines of Ephesus;
or you are Persephone,
the goddess who terrifies with its howling night
that your triple aspect

appease the restless shadows of the dead and

close the doors of the underworld and
vague the woods sacred rites different

tu che con virginea luce illumini tutte le città,

che nutri con i tuoi umidi raggi le sementi feconde,

e nei tuoi giri solitari spandi il tuo incerto chiarore,

sotto qualsiasi nome, con qualsiasi rito,

sotto qualsiasi aspetto sia lecito invocarti,

soccorrimi in queste mie terribili sventure,

sostienimi nella mia sorte infelice,

concedimi un po' di pace,  
a truce after so many terrible events,

for an end to worries, the dangers that they cease.

Deliver [...], make me in the eyes of my loved ones,

let me get back "what I was."

And if I have offended some deity

haunts me with such intense cruelty

I have at least allowed to die

if I may live.
